Avon Walk 2009 Great Start Party

It’s official ! Avon Walk for Breast Cancer 2009 has started. Darryl and I attended the Great Start Party in New York City on Saturday. It was held in a great loft space in lower Manhattan. The building was just a block south of Canal Street. The loft encompassed the entire 4th floor of the building. As I walked across the wood floor, I could feel the dips in the flooring. The stair case was made out of wood ! I have never seen a wood staircase in a building in NY City. I wonder when the building was erected.

We got to the party at 1:30, just in time to hear some of the speakers. There was a large crowd which filled up about 1/2 of the space. Karen B was at a table by the door signing up walkers.  She had registered a total of 63 by the end of the party.  There were a number of the Avon Walk staff in attendance, including Sadie, Stephany and Tara. There were a lot of new faces, too.

The Avon Walk staff and volunteers had decorated the space with garlands of pink ribbons hanging from the ceiling.  There was a Reebok sneaker display… good footwear is critical to avoiding blisters.  Reebok gave away pink bandannas and socks to the walkers.

God’s Love We Deliver had a table set up, including a big bowl of their “to die for” brownies. It was great to see Gary and Bill, who were there providing information about GLWD.  Bill is setting up a team this year and I told him I would join.  I am going to take this year off from leading a team.  It will be really nice to follow someone instead of lead
