Facebook fixes – How to see all your friends status updates in chronolgoical order
Seems that many people are not overly happy with the new Facebook news feed changes. I am compiling some of the work arounds and fixes that I find and will be posting them.
How to see your friends post in chronological order.
Create a list called EVERYONE.
Start from your Home page (Click the Home link along the top-right of any FB page)
On the left column, hover your mouse on the LISTS section. It will expose a MORE link on the right.
Click MORE to reveal your current lists.
Click +Create a List at the top right of the center column.
Name your list EVERYONE (or any name you prefer).
Click Create List button.
A page will appear with “Add friends to this list to see their updates.”
Click on “Add friends” to reveal a list of all your friends. Now the boring part. You will need to click each and every picture to add the friend to your list. I have not found a way to add all in one click. Once you click the photo, a check will appear on the right bottom corner.
Click Done button at the bottom of the pop-up window.
Your new list will now be present under the LISTS section on the left side. If it is not visible, click MORE to see all lists.
Click your list and your friends status updates, in chronological order, will appear as your news feed.
When I use my EVERYONE list for my news feed, I noticed that there are no ads on the right margin. Not sure if this is a function of the list, or the lists are too new and FB hasn’t added ads to these pages yet. In any case, as it stands now, it looks like it could result in a lot fewer eyeballs for advertisers if a large enough group starts to use custom lists to view their news feeds.
How do you delete a list?
You can find the instructions here for deleting a list: http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=200848319959471. Note that there are a few default lists that are created by Facebook and you won’t be able to delete them. The lists are Close Friends, Acquaintances, and family.
Facebook lets you hide the default lists. Instructions here: http://www.facebook.com/help/?faq=220529828000985
Is “List” the same as “Group”? I don’t see list.
Great question. I wrote this post about the difference between Lists and Groups. Lists can be found on the left hand side of your News Feed Page http://amberstang.wordpress.com/2011/09/29/facebook-fixes-lists-vs-groups/
Hold down the CTRL key as you click on friends to add multiple friends to your list.
Great tip! Thanks for sharing.
