Brisk daily walk can halve risk of dying for elderly men

Need more motivation to get off the couch and take a walk?  A recent study showed that brisk walking for 20 to 40 minutes a day can halve the chance of dying for elderly men.

Dr Peter Kokkinos and colleagues from the Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in Washington and Palo Alto in California, studied more than 3,000 men aged between 70 and 92.

Based on exercise tests, the men were put in four fitness categories. For every 100 men who died in the very low fitness group, 74 died in the next group up, 54 in the moderately fit group and 46 in the high fit category.  Read entire article here:  Telegraph online–>
