View from a quick stop along the route

May 17, 2011

Last weekend was the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Boston.  I volunteered as a crew member at Quick Stop B.   Our team’s theme was Boobie Brigade. On Saturday and Sunday we hosted a stop along the route which provided water, Gatorade and Porta Potties for the walkers.  On Saturday, we were at mile 6.9 of 26 and on Sunday we were at mile 6.4 of 13.

For the average walker, these mile points are at about 2 hours into the walk on each day.  The video was shot on Sunday.  It had rained overnight and although threatening, the rain held off until just after noon when the walkers were approaching the end of the walk.

The walkers swarmed into the rest stop and the first thing they did was head to the Porta Potties en masse.   We had decorated the potties with signs printed in pink with words of encouragement.

The Avon Walk Boston participants raised more than $5.2 million to advance access to care and finding a cure for breast cancer. The event attracted more than 2,300 participants from 37 states and Washington, D.C., as well as Canada and Bermuda, including 214 breast cancer survivors.  For detailed information on where the beneficiaries from the walk –> Avon Walk Boston Results
