Great Start to Avon Walk Season 2012

February 6, 2012

Last Saturday marked the start of Avon Walk season 2012.  There was a Great Start party held in each of the 9 walk cities. The walk is held in Houston, Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, Rocky Mountains, San Francisco, Santa Barbara, New York and Charlotte.

The New York party was held on the ship Hornblower Hybrid, a large party boat.  I really enjoy attending these events because I get the chance to see friends I have made through the years on the Walk.

This year is extra special as it marks the 10th anniversary of the 2 Day, 39.3 mile walk. In the last decade, Avon Walkers have walked a total of 5.3 million miles—the equivalent of 210 times around the earth. All of that walking and fund-raising has enabled the Avon Breast Cancer Crusade to fund nearly 2.7 million mammograms for under-insured women in the U.S. and 1,800 grants for breast cancer research, clinical care and support services for those who need it most.

If you would like to walk, there is a special promotion code you can use to get a $20 discount on the regular registration fee of $65.  To receive this special limited time discount, use promo code WALK1220. To sign up, visit to the Walk website:

This will be my seventh year walking in New York.  To date, I have walked 182 miles (not including training walks) and raised $30,753.  Last year  I did not reach my goal of $5,000 ~ donations were more difficult to come by because of the poor economy.  I have set my goal again at $5,000 for this year.  I would be most grateful if you would consider sponsoring me.  Every dollar helps support the fight against breast cancer. You can make a secure online donation on the Avon Walk web page.  Thank you.
